The story appealed to me, but from the start I told André Téchiné that whatever the scenario, I wanted to work with him again, that we should turn the wheel together again. With André, one is never going to fall asleep. He likes to always push you
a little further towards the edge.”

A love story between two emotionally damaged outsiders, Alice et Martin marks André Téchiné's return to the haunting and intense territory of his earlier films Les Roseaux Sauvages and Les Voleurs and reunites him with Juliette Binoche who starred in his 1985 film Rendez-vous.
Following the death of his father, 20 year old Martin (Alexis Loret) goes missing. He eventually reappears, distressed and fragile, at the Paris apartment shared by his half brother Benjamin (Mathieu Amalric) and his flatmate Alice (Juliette Binoche). Finding work as a model, Martin begins to build a life for himself in the city.
At first Alice dislikes Martin, but tentatively, a love affair between them develops and she becomes pregnant. However, their happiness is short lived as the mystery of Martin's past unravels and he reveals the terrible secret behind his guilt…
Co-written with Gilles Tarraund and Olivier Assayas, Alice et Martin is another dense and layered drama from André Téchiné, featuring remarkable performances from Juliette Binoche, Mathieu Amalric and Carmen Maura.
